HANDS is delighted to be joint recipients of the Community Group of The Year Award — alongside seven other Richmond upon Thames Neighbourhood Care Groups (NCGs) — as part of Richmond Council’s Community Heroes Awards 2020.
The Awards show appreciation to local people who have made a difference to their community, including those who have stepped up in a huge local response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HANDS experienced significant increases in demand from older people shielding at home during the pandemic. In 2020 our volunteers responded to over 1,500 requests for help, carrying out small acts of kindness, including shopping, prescription delivery and telephone befriending to support some of the most vulnerable and isolated members of our community.
